District partners with mayor’s office for recycling challenge

Dallas ISD elementary students are looking to bag a prize in a new competition that encourages recycling. The It’s A Bag’s Life Recycling Challenge gives students a change to learn about the 3Rs—reduce, reuse and recycle—and enjoy a competition to see which campus can collect the most plastic bags and wraps per student. The contest kicked off Dec. 10 and ends April 22, Earth Day. Every participating school will get a prize, and the school with the most bags collected will win a park bench made from recycled plastic bags. Improved systems and procedures lead to end of e-Rate compliance agreement with feds

The Dallas Independent School District, with improved systems and procedures, has been released from the compliance agreement with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) that had temporarily barred the district from e-Rate, or formally the Schools and Libraries, program, dollars. In force since July 2009, the agreement had prevented the district from accessing discounts and subsidies on computers, internet connections and other means to access the internet or communicate. The Dallas Independent School District has announced its winners for the 2015 Principal of the Year award. This year the district named the four winners for 2015 Principal of the Year during a special ceremony on Dec. 9 at the Dallas Market Center. Julie Singleton of H.I. Holland Elementary School (elementary), Tracie Washington of Billy Earl Dade Middle School (secondary) and Nakia Douglas of Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy (magnet/special programs) were named the top principal in their respective classifications. District names nominees for Principal of the Year

Dallas ISD recently named the nine finalists for 2015 Principal of the Year. The finalists are all rated in the top three tiers of the Principal Excellence Initiative. There are four elementary level finalists, two at the secondary level, and three from magnet and special programs. The district will recognize these outstanding Dallas ISD principals and name the winners at an event on Dec. 9.
