New student achievement goals up for consideration
0Trustees are considering adopting six new student achievement goals to set expectations that, in part, more students will graduate and be involved in school. Trustees and Superintendent Michael Hinojosa developed the proposed achievement goals after reviewing district results and holding multiple workshops. Hinojosa said most of the proposed goals have key performance indicators. The goals are: Goal 1: All students will exhibit Satisfactory or above performance on State assessments. Discussion on proposed consolidated administrative building turns to cost savings
0A discussion on a proposal to consolidate approximately 24 administrative departments into one building focused in on how such a consolidation could ultimately save the district money. Dallas ISD Chief Financial Officer Jim Terry said a consolidated administrative building would save money by not requiring the district to continue operating and maintaining multiple aging facilities. 0Lyriq Turner, a fifth-grader at Charles Rice Learning Center, took the top spot in the 24th annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition final. She and seven other finalists vied for the top honors on Friday, Jan. 15, at The Majestic Theatre. Watch her deliver her winning speech in the video above. Budd Elementary student wins NABE bilingual essay contest, trip to Chicago
0Leslie Romero, a fourth-grade student in the dual-language program at Harrell Budd Elementary, has many reasons she is thankful to be bilingual and biliterate. For starters, she is able to help her Spanish-speaking parents when they need to translate or understand something in English. She also knows that being bilingual and biliterate will be useful when she looks to get a job down the road.
