0Congressman Marc Veasey participated in Principal For a Day this year, and he got an inside look into Arcadia Park Elementary School. Principal For a Day strengthens partnerships with business, civic leaders
0Dallas ISD’s Principal for a Day got off to a great start on Tuesday! The event provides community and business leaders with a behind-the-scenes look at the local education system. Dallas Regional Chamber and Capital One help sponsor the annual event that this year sees more than 200 volunteers leading schools across the district. The Principals For a Day have the opportunity to shadow local principals, meet with students, read to classes, attend student performances, and participate in a number of other activities that make up a typical school day.
Event celebrates opening of Solar Preparatory School for Girls
0District officials, parents, community members and representatives from organizations partnering with the new Solar Preparatory School for Girls celebrated the school’s opening on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The school launched in August in the former James Bonham Elementary School building on Henderson Avenue. This year, the school serves girls in kindergarten through second grade. Each subsequent year will add a grade, ultimately making the school a K-8 campus. Khloe Scurry of Dallas ISD’s Office of Transformation and Innovation welcomed guests and gave an overview of the school. Sunset High School hosts discussion on police with U.S. Attorney General
0U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch visited Dallas ISD’s Sunset High School on Monday, Oct. 3, to talk about the type of community policing that outgoing Dallas Police Chief David Brown implemented during his tenure. Lynch also announced the kickoff of a new $119 million grant program for police departments across the country. The Dallas department will receive $3.1 million in grant funds to hire 25 additional officers. This week is National Community Policing Week, with many communities conducting National Night Out events on Wednesday. Joining Lynch was John R.
