Dallas ISD students set Guinness World Record for largest programming lesson
0Capital One and 724 Dallas ISD NAF students have set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for the largest programming lesson! At a “Monster Coding Jam” session, these scary smart ninth-graders kicked off Techweek Dallas by learning the basics of app creation and developing their very own “monster mash” gaming app. The previous record was held by a programming class of 712 participants, organized by the Lithuanian MEP Antanas Guoga, on Sept. 9, 2016, in Vilnius, Lithuania. High school girls get inside look into commercial real estate careers
0The Commercial Real Estate Women network, or CREW, hosted 64 Dallas ISD students in a mock development competition called CREW Careers. The competition is designed to provide high school girls an introduction into commercial real estate and the various job functions that support the industry. Prior to the competition, students went on a walking tour of the CityLine development in Richardson. At the competition, teams were assigned a property type and worked with CREW volunteers to develop a plan that would fit in with the CityLine Development. Watch the above video to learn more.
Lincoln, Carter students among first to early vote in presidential election
0Early voting began on Oct. 24 and, already, some Dallas ISD students haven taken to the polls as a first-time voter. Students from Lincoln High School and Communications/Humanities Magnet received a standing ovation from poll workers as they cast their ballots at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. In September and October, a number of women groups from the Lincoln community registered students who would be eligible to vote in time for the November election. African American Success Initiative partners with yoga pros to bring mindfulness to students
0Dallas ISD’s African American Success Initiative has partnered with the Dallas Yoga Center owners Daniel and David Sunshine and Karletha Gundy, a certified yoga instructor and founder of Push Through Coaching, to offer an amazing experience through Mindfulness training. “The goal of this partnership is to support the work of the principals and teachers in an effort to mitigate classroom disruptions while providing meaningful tools and techniques to stimulate learning and increase focus,” said Jamila Thomas, a Dallas ISD AASI coordinator. “Ultimately, as this partnership grows, parent and family engagement will become a critical piece through this opportunity in our…
