Dallas ISD celebrates lasting legacy of Dr. Seuss by focusing on literacy
0Schools across Dallas ISD honored the legacy of late children’s author Dr. Seuss on Thursday, March 2, which marked what would have been his 113th birthday. Volunteers visited campuses to read to students and help with Seuss-themed activities. At Paul Dunbar Elementary School, guests from Baylor, Scott & White and Aramark visited the school Thursday morning to read to students. Some staff members dressed as The Cat in the Hat, a favorite Seuss character. At Roger Q. Mills Elementary, the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas helped coordinate volunteers from Celanese Corporation and Texas Instruments to visit the school. In addition…

Dallas ISD announces new choice schools and programs
0Dallas ISD’s Office of Transformation and Innovation (OTI) today announced the brand new choice offerings identified through the Public School Choice 3.0 selection process. The chosen schools include one neighborhood school redesigning its academic model for all its students, one school piloting an innovative program, and one brand new middle school that will be open to all district students. Felix G. Botello Elementary School, located in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood, will launch as an Innovation School with a new Personalized Learning academic model beginning in August 2017. Campus celebrates new name, mission at new all-boys school
0A ribbon-cutting followed student choir, band and drama performances as staff, parents and students gathered for the naming ceremony for the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Fred Florence Middle School, the district’s newest single-gender school for boys. Math Instructional Coach Derek Thomas opened the event and served as emcee, and Principal Dawn Walker welcomed district and city officials and community members. Speakers included District 4 Trustee Jaime Resendez, who reflected on his experiences growing up in the same Pleasant Grove community where the school is located.
