TEA announces Early College High School designations for 23 Dallas ISD campuses

Dallas ISD and the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) are set to operate 23 Early College High Schools (ECHS) in the 2017–2018 school year. This will make Dallas ISD and the DCCCD a statewide leader in providing an opportunity for students to earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree—at no cost to them— while earning a high school diploma. The Texas Education Agency last week announced the ECHS designations. Individuals, organizations and businesses that volunteer and partner with Dallas ISD prove that there is strength in numbers. This year, the numbers are strong indeed. So far this year, 29,000 volunteers have served the district, amassing more than 300,000 service hours equal to a value of $7 million. Likewise on the partners side, the district has logged more than 2,500 documented contributions valued at a total of $10.1 million. More than 100 eleventh-graders who are pursuing an English endorsement got an inside look at possible future careers at a career panel held at Southern Methodist University. The Dallas ISD Reading Language Arts Department hosted the career panel that featured six notable professionals in the Dallas area. “This was a valuable opportunity because the students got to ask questions and learn from these accomplished professionals about these different types of jobs,” Dallas ISD Assistant Superintendent Vince Reyes said. On Tuesday, April 18, the Career Education and Workforce Partnerships Department hosted the Dallas ISD NAF Senior Recognition Ceremony.  The ceremony honored seniors who have completed a program of study in a NAF academy and demonstrated academic excellence in Dallas ISD’s Career and Technical Education programs.
