Candidates planning to run for election to the Dallas ISD School Board of Trustees have until Friday, Feb. 17, to submit their filing packets to secure a place on the ballot. Three seats are up for election: District 2, North and Near East Dallas, currently represented by Dustin Marshall District 6, Southwest Dallas, currently represented by Joyce Foreman District 8, Love Field, Northwest Dallas and Central Dallas, currently represented by Miguel Solis. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg surprised students from the School for the Talented and Gifted and South Oak Cliff High School Collegiate Academy as they performed a service project over the weekend. Zuckerberg joined the students as they helped build a community garden in Oak Cliff. “It was truly an unbelievable experience,” said Camryn Pope, a ninth-grader in the SOC collegiate academy. “Everyone just about lost their minds.” The students showed up to help build the community garden as part of a Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. When they arrived, they learned…

Application window open for Dallas ISD collegiate academies

The application window is open for current eighth-graders interested in attending a Dallas ISD collegiate academy. Students who attend a collegiate academy can earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree—at no cost to them—concurrently while earning a high school diploma. Dallas ISD launched seven collegiate academies and a P-TECH at existing high schools this school year.
