Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) Superintendent Michael Hinojosa has been named the 2017 Latino Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS). The award will be presented during the ALAS annual awards gala on Thursday, April 27 in Washington, D.C. Two schools in the Dallas Independent School District School (Dallas ISD) have achieved top spots on the 2017 Best High Schools national rankings, according to the U.S. News & World Report. Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center (TAG) has been named the best high school in Texas and No. 4 in the nation. District 5th-, 8th-grade students see gains on STAAR mathematics test

Dallas ISD fifth- and eighth-grade students achieved significant gains on the first administration of the STAAR mathematics test. The results follow new measurement standards set by the Texas Education Agency. The new performance levels are noted as Approaches Grade Level (formerly Level 2), Meets Grade Level (formerly Level 2 final), Masters Grade Level (formerly Level 3), and Does Not Meet Grade Level. Overall, the passing rates in fifth- and eighth-grade math each increased by 6.3 and 11.8 percentage points, up 2.3 and 0.5 percent, respectively.
