0On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Mayor Mike Rawlings kicked off the 11th Dallas Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program by urging businesses and nonprofits to sign up to participate in the program. The eight-week paid summer internships are available to Dallas students, with the deadline to register coming fast on Jan. 31. Assistance with specialty school applications available Jan. 25 and 29
0Parents who need help to navigate the application process for Dallas ISD’s specialty schools have four remaining opportunities to get help completing their child’s application for collegiate academies, magnets, dual language, Montessori, Transformation and other specialty schools. Central staff employees from departments that support specialty schools are providing hands-on assistance to parents to complete students’ applications by the Wed., Jan. 31, application deadline. Some 80 parents braved cold temperatures to attend recent workshops at Emmett Conrad and Thomas Jefferson high schools. 0Dallas ISD named its three Teachers of the Year at a special reception on Jan. 17. The 2017-2018 Teachers of the Year are: Josue Tamarez Torres, fifth-grade math, Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School Beth Poquette Drews, mariachi, orchestra, guitar for grades 6-8, L.V. Stockard Middle School Nedra Johnson, science for grades 6-8, Alex W. 0Registration is now open for the largest STEM Expo in Texas! The STEM Expo, which will feature a variety of fun, hands-on activities, is set for Saturday, Jan. 20 at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin St., from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Scheduled sessions include: 3D Printing, Build Your Own Flashlight, Concrete Bowling, Green Screen Tech, and Robots on the Move.
