In an effort to ease the uncertainty that many families throughout the county, including those in Dallas ISD, face due to the recent changes to the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), Dallas ISD launched dallasisd.org/daca, a web page with resources, and information for those who are impacted. “I’ve had a lot of questions from the community about what will happen to them if DACA goes away,” said Superintendent Michael Hinojosa during a presentation of the resources page to the Board of Trustees. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 28 for Sudie Williams Talented and Gifted Academy, the newest talented and gifted academy in the city of Dallas! Students currently in grades 3–5 are encouraged to apply here. The Sudie Williams Talented and Gifted Academy, 4518 Pomona Road, will open in August 2018 and start by serving students in grades 4–6. The campus will then add one grade every year until it serves grades 4–8 in 2021. Pleasant Grove is getting a first-of-its-kind school in Dallas: a Two-Way Dual Language Talented and Gifted Academy. Students currently in grades 3–5 are encouraged to apply here for this innovative school by Feb. 28! The school located at 9610 Bruton Road will open in August 2018 and start by serving students in grades 4–6. Classes will feature native English and native Spanish speakers learning each others’ languages through a Gifted and Talented curriculum.
