Amazing Shake brings current events, practical skills to students (video)

“Do leaders have moral obligations?” This was the conversation starter for one of the more than 100 Dallas ISD students who competed in the second round of the Amazing Shake Competition on Feb. 2. The competition focuses on life skills such as a firm handshake, eye-contact, and back-and-forth communication. Volunteers from Dallas ISD and local leaders and businesses participated as judges. Botello Elementary celebrates World Read Aloud Day with special guests

Former NFL football player Langston Moore joked with students at Felix G. Botello Elementary School that the league’s initials stand for “Not For Long.” Moore played for 10 years in the NFL, for the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions. The point he aimed to make was that athletes must have a career plan for after their relatively short professional sports careers end. All seniors at 23 high schools eligible for full scholarship to Dallas community colleges

Thanks to an unprecedented financial commitment from the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) Foundation, all seniors – regardless of GPA or family income – at 23 Dallas ISD high schools have the opportunity to earn a full-tuition scholarship, a Success Coach mentor, and access to additional transfer scholarships to attend partner four-year universities including SMU and UNT-Dallas.
