Campus leaders hone their leadership skills at engaging professional development training
0All Dallas ISD school administrators, 222 principals and approximately 430 assistant principals strengthened their leadership skills during a three-day, in-depth training conference. Dallas ISD, in partnership with the educational nonprofit Teaching Trust, organized this seminar to prepare administrators for the 2019-2020 academic year. The campus leaders gathered at Emmett J. Conrad High School on Tuesday for the School Leadership Summer Intensive kickoff. Dallas Symphony Orchestra leads six Dallas ISD summer programs
0Representatives from Dallas Symphony Orchestra taught music lessons at several Dallas ISD elementary schools during the summer. Students learned the basics about reading a music sheet and interacted with many different instruments, most of them for the very first time. DSO organized the first Youth Concert for Dallas ISD students almost 100 years ago, said Jamie Allen, DSO Director of Education. Dallas ISD is opening doors to free pre-K for more families
0Dallas ISD has raised family income limits and is offering scholarships to expand the number of 3- and 4-year-olds eligible to attend pre-K at no cost. The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees in June approved the pre-K scholarship program. Executives of the district’s Racial Equity Office and Early Learning department told trustees the pre-K scholarship policy will help address structural racial inequities and bring the long-lasting benefits of prekindergarten to more families. “It’s to the advantage of our district and students to have as many students participate in our pre-K program as possible,” said Leslie Williams, Racial Equity Office deputy…
STEM summer camps make learning fun
0It’s Tuesday morning, and a group of students at the My First STEM Camp at Montessori Academy at Onesimo Hernandez are building a bridge out Legos based on renderings they drew on a piece of paper. Meanwhile, over at the Mad Science Camp at Anne Frank Elementary School, groups of students are experimenting with a 3D printer, coding and enjoying hands-on lessons about plants.
