Students, parents and community members asked to provide input on how to address challenge of learning loss caused by the pandemic
0Data shows the pandemic could have a devastating impact on the academic progress of students. To mitigate this learning loss and accelerate student growth, Dallas ISD is exploring three potential options for the 2021–2022 school year that would add learning and enrichment time for some or all students. In October and November, Dallas ISD held focus groups to get valuable input from teachers, campus leaders and central staff. Waiver of Fall ACP Testing Proposed, Pending Board Approval
0At Thursday’s Dallas ISD board briefing, trustees will consider a proposal to waive the use of the fall Assessment of Course Performance (ACP) as a weighted portion of the semester average for middle and high school students. Board members are expected to vote on the proposal at their monthly meeting on Dec. 17. Shannon Trejo, chief academic officer, said the removal of the ACP as a mid-year assessment, if approved by the board, would reduce stress on the system and give teachers more time to focus on learning loss caused by disruptions due to the coronavirus. Dallas ISD is significantly increasing its internet bandwidth so students can successfully learn from anywhere
0Dallas ISD is significantly increasing its internet bandwidth across the district to provide the best internet experience possible. On Nov. 13, Dallas ISD increased its bandwidth from 20 gigabytes per second to 40 gigabytes per second. By Dec. 18, the bandwidth will increase to 100 gigabytes per second. Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data transmitted over an internet connection in a given amount of time. Exceeding bandwidth capacity can result in poor video and sound quality–especially in Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings– and cause dropped connections.
