Dallas ISD will continue offering free curbside meals to all children ages 1-18 during the winter break. The pickup dates are Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 from 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m., or until supplies last. For the past several years, a task force of educators within Dallas ISD has been focused on creating supports for students, teachers and campuses within the district in hopes of building enrollment, increasing Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and heightening achievement. Dallas ISD received the 2020 NRG Excellence in Energy Efficiency Award. The district was selected from public and private entities statewide to receive the award for its “continual process to reduce costs by reducing energy consumption,” and by being the largest urban school district in the nation with renewable energy. This singular recognition is a result of a coordinated effort within the Dallas ISD Maintenance and Facilities Department to enhance financial and environmental stewardship through preventive maintenance, lighting and HVAC upgrades, and focused support of the department’s Energy Management and Sustainability team. A national leader in Dual Language instruction, Dallas ISD proudly serves as one of the largest programs in the nation, with instruction offered at 145 schools. Dallas ISD students can begin their journey to becoming bilingual and biliterate in prekindergarten and can remain in the program through high school. If the Dual Language pathway is continued through 12th grade and TEA criteria are met, Dual Language students can earn the bilingualism and biliteracy performance acknowledgement on their high school transcript.
