Superheroes and villains make the first intersession week an epic success at 41 schools
0Superheroes–and a few well dressed supervillains–took over 41 Dallas ISD schools this week. But instead of a battle of good versus evil, these teachers and students are tackling something just as important: unfinished learning. The 41 schools adopted an intersession calendar, which extends the school year to start at the beginning of August and end in late June, creating time for five additional weeks spread throughout the year. Sept. 20–24 marked the first of the intersession weeks, granting select students the opportunity for more personalized attention and fun instruction in small groups. Supply chain issues are causing Dallas ISD to reduce the use of flatware with school meals

Effective Monday, Sept. 13: Breakfasts served on Tuesdays and Thursdays at all school levels–except the “hot” breakfast at select high schools–will all be finger foods. No flatware will be offered to students, except for students with certain conditions and/or whose IEP/504 requires foods that require flatware to be consumed. As an example, schools will not serve cereal (which requires a spoon) on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Lunches served on Tuesdays…
