In October, student-athletes at Bryan Adams High School will attempt to raise $10,000 for the fight against childhood cancer. According to a statement from Go4theGoal’s Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer campaign, the high school is raising money at donate.go4thegoal.org/bryanadams. The school’s goal is to raise $10,000. Teams will also be wearing shoelaces during games that are gold, the color for childhood cancer awareness, during their games. September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The new head of Special Education, Tanya Browne, has come full circle in her career. The journalist-turned-educator started out in a Dallas ISD classroom in 1993. She later became a dean and associate principal before joining the Special Education department, first as supervisor of secondary programs and then director of curriculum and instruction. Adamson Band Director Chris Green got the surprise of his life last month when the school gathered for a top-secret assembly during which Green learned he was a finalist for the Farmers Insurance Thank Americas Teachers grant where he could win $100,000. The band program at Adamson has grown from having 12 students to more than 200 in the past five years. The grant would purchase band equipment so that every student has an instrument to play. One thing Matthew Adesanya has learned from his eighth-grade Physics students at Fred F. Florence Middle School is that time flies when he’s trying to get them to complete an activity. “You give them 5 minutes to do something, and it takes 20,” Adesanya laughed. There were several times students needed refocusing, and he would belt out “Attention!” followed by a series of instructions.
