Commercial Real Estate Women Network, conocida como CREW, recibió a 64 estudiantes de Dallas ISD durante una competencia simulada de desarrollo, llamada CREW Careers. La competencia está diseñada para presentarles a las alumnas de preparatoria una introducción a las bienes raíces comerciales y las distintas funciones que son parte de la industria. Antes de la competencia, las estudiantes recorrieron el desarrollo CityLine en Richardson. Dallas ISD is piloting a program that allows several schools to accept credit cards, debit cards, or an online “e-check” to pay for everything from field trips to fees. The pilot program is active at Hillcrest High School and Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, and will become active this spring at Skyline High School, Marsh Middle School, Bowie Elementary and Stemmons Elementary schools. During the PTA Fall Carnival, two Charles Rice Learning Center students dressed up as the presidential candidates—and a secret service agent, for good measure—to encourage parents to vote. Skye Turner was Hillary Clinton, Jakorian Jackson was Donald Trump, and Brandon Johnson played the very serious secret service officer. Eighty-five Dallas ISD elementary schools will be used as polling locations on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
The 4th annual Cougars Running Wild 5K and 1-mile Fun Run is set for Saturday, Nov. 12, beginning and ending at Dallas ISD’s Bryan Adams High School. Besides promoting exercise and a healthy lifestyle, the event raises funds for the school’s PTSA to support students and teachers. Runners of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate. The Oncor Mayor’s Race 5K is set for Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at the base of Reunion Tower. Once again, Dallas ISD students and staff can participate at no cost if they sign up through their schools. Forms from schools must be received by Dallas ISD Health and PE by Nov. 11. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt, those who finish will receive a finisher medallion and no-cost bus rides will be available to and from the event. Early voting began on Oct. 24 and, already, some Dallas ISD students haven taken to the polls as a first-time voter. Students from Lincoln High School and Communications/Humanities Magnet received a standing ovation from poll workers as they cast their ballots at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. In September and October, a number of women groups from the Lincoln community registered students who would be eligible to vote in time for the November election. The 10th Annual Junius Heights Home Tour will showcase six homes and also a tour of Dallas ISD’s Woodrow Wilson High School. The tour is set for 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.
