Estudiantes de Conrad High School y Hillcrest High School se ofrecieron pasar un sábado reciente ayudando a recoger basura en el área de White Rock Creek. Los más de 70 estudiantes de las dos preparatorias, y 21 adultos voluntarios, lograron llenar 126 bolsas de basura de 30 galones con desechos. Los estudiantes de las dos escuelas también compitieron entre sí en la primera Copa de Conservación para ver quien recogía más basura. James Bowie Elementary counselor Aimey Cole was named the Dallas ISD 2017–2018 Counselor of the Year at a special ceremony on May 9. The other finalists for Counselor of the Year were: Jackie Villalobos of Young Women’s STEAM Academy at Balch Springs, KaShunda Davis of W.W. Since it opened 20 years ago, Dallas ISD’s Anne Frank Elementary School became the biggest elementary school in Texas at one point, serving about 1,400 students. It was also the first school named after Anne Frank in the country, and the first named after a child in the state. Last month, current and former students, and staff and members of the community celebrated the school’s 20th anniversary in conjunction with its annual Cultural Diversity Night. Almost 200 Dallas ISD students are taking part in an innovative program that prepares them to be the next generation of Dallas leaders. The students, members of the Brewer Foundation Future Leaders Program (FLP), were recently honored at Southern Methodist University. Students from Conrad and Hillcrest high schools volunteered to spend a recent Saturday afternoon helping clean up the White Rock Creek area. More than 70 students from the two high schools and 21 adult volunteers filled up 126 30-gallon trash bags with garbage and debris. Students from the two schools also competed in a first-ever Conservation Cup to see who could pick up the most trash. The Conrad High School Environmental League challenged Hillcrest to the competition. Conrad won the Conservation Cup by collecting 23 bags of trash. The SOLAR Preparatory School for Girls has turned lemons into a Project Based Learning experience. All students participated in the longterm project that taught them a variety of skills. The students helped build and paint lemonade stands and developed advertisements and sales techniques. Students also read fiction texts in which the main characters are selling lemonade. Parent volunteers helped the girls build the stands form scratch. SOLAR Prep is a Transformation School and part of the Public School Choice Imitative that opened in August 2016. The T.C. Marsh Leadership Cadet Corps earned three championship titles at the 2017 Drill Battle of DFW competition last month in DeSoto. The Marsh cadets competed with schools from Red Oak, DeSoto, Glen Heights, Fort Worth and the Dallas area. They were evaluated on precision, overall appearance, command voice and military bearing.
