A new policy on racial equity was adopted this summer in an effort to strengthen the district’s socio-economic and educational parity for its students. The purpose of this policy is to adhere to the Racial, Socio-Economic, Educational Equity Resolution that was adopted by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 14, 2017. Dallas ISD’s student population comes from 115 countries and speaks over 70 different languages. As part of the district’s commitment to providing a welcoming and protective environment for every student, families who are new to the country and enrolling in school for the first time can visit the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center. At the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center, all new-to-the-country students in grades K through 12 will receive not only enrollment assistance, but also language testing, transcripts evaluation, orientation about the educational system in Dallas ISD and school supplies. When school starts on Aug. 20, the new Anne Frank Early Childhood Center will welcome in some of the district’s youngest students. The early childhood center, which is a separate building but part of Anne Frank Elementary School, will have one classroom for 3-year-old pre-K and six classrooms for 4-year-old pre-K. “The Anne Frank Early Childhood Center will be a valuable resource in developing our youngest students’ social and emotional learning abilities, fine motor skills, and basics of learning,” Anne Frank Principal Beverly Mullins Ford said. “These students will be set up for future success.” The 2015 bridge project funded…

The Office of Transformation and Innovation (OTI) is excited to formally announce the release of the Public School Choice (PSC) Competitive Proposal Process, Version 6.0. The Public School Choice is a competitive proposal process where educators create high-quality, best-fit options for Dallas ISD students to realize their full academic potential. Currently, there are 34 new Choice schools ranging from those that anchor teaching and learning under a Leadership model to schools driven by a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) framework. El 25 de julio, se reunieron alrededor de 1,500 empleados de Dallas ISD en Wilmer-Hutchins High School para dar inició oficial al programa del distrito que hace hincapié en el trabajo en equipo y promueve las mejores prácticas de enseñanza. About 20 students from two Dallas ISD schools are back from a life-changing experience: competing in Florida in a Futsal tournament against teams from across the globe. Futsal is similar to indoor soccer, but involves only five players at a time. By winning the sixth-grade Dallas ISD Futsal Tournament held in March, teams from Stockard and Spence middle schools earned their entry into the World Futsal Championships.
