Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has visited Dallas ISD twice in the past month, once to unveil a school safety plan and just last week to gather input from teachers and officials on the best ways to educate children. Five-year-old Canon Lindenmeyer had an anticlimactic start to the school year at Walnut Hill Elementary School. Because he attended the school’s tuition-based pre-K program last school year, Lindenmeyer knew what to expect when he started kindergarten on Aug. 20. El programa de Educación para Talentosos y Dotados (TAG) de Dallas ISD está aceptando nominaciones para estudiantes de 1o a 5o grado. Se aceptan nominaciones del 27 de agosto al 7 de septiembre. Los padres, tutores legales y miembros de la comunidad pueden nominar a los estudiantes e incluso, los alumnos pueden nominarse a sí mismos. Los paquetes informativos se encuentran con el maestro del programa TAG en las escuelas en su comunidad. Los alumnos deben estar inscritos en el Dallas ISD para poder ser evaluados. Students at 12 Dallas ISD secondary schools may have the opportunity to make continuous academic improvement with the help of a $7.4 million Gates Foundation grant awarded to the Institute for Learning (IFL), an outreach of the University of Pittsburgh’s Learning Research and Development Center. On Friday, Aug. 24, students from seven Dallas ISD elementary schools celebrated a donation of uniforms to their schools by Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities and JCPenney with a pep rally-style event at Ellis Davis Field House. John Quincy Adams, James Bowie, J.N. Ervin, Tom Field, Martin Luther King Jr., Umphrey Lee and Herbert Marcus elementary schools are among campuses that together received a total of 3,000 donated uniforms valued at $150,000.
