Shannon Kline, a second-grade teacher at Anson Jones Elementary School, was surprised with a $10,000 check after being named a recipient of the Sanford Teacher Awards. Kline was one of five inaugural awardees who demonstrate the qualities of inspiring teaching. Sanford Programs and the National University System hosted the awards. After being surprised with the award, Kline teared up and thanked her fantastic students. “This is my inspiration right here,” she said, pointing to the students. “These kids are my heart.” Go here to see video of Kline being surprised with the award.

Dallas ISD is close to finalizing a long-range master plan that provides data and information relative to facility assessments, conditions and capacity/enrollment at every school. Dallas ISD trustees were briefed on the near final Long-Range Master Plan (LRMP) during a Sept. 22 workshop. The 10-year plan is the culmination of 14 months of work that included architectural firms walking and analyzing every Dallas ISD school. Se rindió homenaje a los logros de Wright durante una ceremonia el 26 de septiembre. Wright fue el superintendente de Dallas ISD de 1978 a 1987. Continuó apoyando a los estudiantes como subsecretario del Departamento de la Educación de Estados Unidos, como asesor a distritos y juntas escolares y como catedrático adjunto. El Cuerpo de Cadetes de Liderazgo de Thomas C. Marsh Preparatory Academy presentó un tributo a las banderas en una conferencia de prensa anunciando una donación de cinco millones de dólares para expandir la educación en las ciencias en el Perot Museum of Nature and Science (museo de la naturaleza y las ciencias). La Junta Estatal de Educación nombró a Marnie Glaser, una madre y voluntaria de Dallas ISD, como ganadora del Premio Heroes for Children Award (Premio Héroes para los Niños). La Junta Estatal de Educación (SBOE, por sus siglas en inglés) seleccionó a un voluntario extraordinario de cada junta distrital para honrar con este reconocimiento. El viernes, 28 de septiembre, el Dallas ISD y Out Teach, anteriormente conocida como REAL School Gardens, celebraron haber plantado juntos el jardín escolar número 40. Gracias al apoyo recibido de parte de Boston Consulting Group y el supermercado Sprouts, los empleados y voluntarios trabajaron en equipo para plantar el jardín en la escuela primaria. Como sorpresa, Boston Consulting Group presentó un cheque por $1,000 a Reymundo Cervantes, director de Henry González Elementary School.

L.V. Stockard Middle School closed out its Education Go Get It Week with a fun hallway decorating competition. The school’s sixth-grade hallways were decorated with local colleges, seventh-grade hallways with state colleges, and eight-grade with Ive League schools. The students all helped and, during the judging, came out in graduation caps and gowns to celebrate what they will be doing after high school.

Dallas ISD and Out Teach, formerly known as REAL School Gardens, celebrated the 40th school garden planted together on Friday, Sept. 28. Thanks to support from Boston Consulting Group and Sprouts, employees and volunteers came together to build the outdoor learning garden at Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School. As a special surprise, Boston Consulting Group presented a $1,000 check to Gonzalez Elementary Principal Reymundo Cervantes.
