Last week, the Junior League of Dallas (JLD), along with presenting sponsor Texas Instruments, held a virtual presentation to award 40 Dallas ISD educators with grants of up to $2,500 each through the annual Grants for Innovative Teaching (GFIT) program. Since 1992, this JLD Signature Project has awarded more than $1.9 million to Dallas ISD educators and is designed to encourage excellence in education by funding special projects addressing: reading and literacy enrichment; diversity; special education; science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); or arts and culture enrichment across one or more grade levels. Adrian Garcia’s love of flying and airplanes fully took off while enrolled in Skyline High School’s aviation pathway. After high school, he got his bachelor’s degree in aviation management and pilot’s license–racking up more than 100 flying hours–and embraced a love of flying drones, starting his own business in aerial photography/videography. Families who want to switch their student’s learning model–from either distance (online) learning to on-campus learning or from on-campus learning to distance learning– for the second nine-week grade period should contact their child’s campus the week of Oct. 26–30. The Transportation Referral Incentive Supplemental earning is designed to compensate Dallas ISD employees that refer external candidates to the Transportation Department for full-time driver positions. Eligibility for the incentive requires the candidate to notify Human Capital Management at the time of hire of any referral via the official referral form, and prior to their official start date as part of their on-boarding process. The newly hired driver must reach 45 drive days based on the 185-work day calendar for the driver referrer to qualify for the payment. The supplemental earning amount is $200.
