Dallas ISD students who don’t have film programs at their schools are getting the opportunity to become filmmakers through a partnership with their school and a program through Pegasus Media Project, a nonprofit arts organization. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) engaged in fierce legal battles against schools from across Texas. All three schools advanced to the second day of competition. Submitted by the Social Studies department Over 350 sixth-grade students across Dallas ISD represented 26 countries at this year’s Model United Nations (UN) Conference held at Ellis Davis Field House. Leading up to the conference, students worked on developing their research skills, public speaking, reading, writing, and problem-solving. Representatives from Reliant Energy presented Dallas ISD’s Energy and Sustainability department with a $64,000 check to support the district’s ongoing efforts of energy efficiency. Education has always played an important role in Dallas ISD Police Chief Albert Martinez’s life. Now, in his new role as the top police officer for the district, he is combining his support for education with his passion for serving others.
