Paolaenid Rodney-Hernandez has been on the path to study neuroscience since she was in ninth grade, and has not missed a single academic or athletic opportunity that has presented itself along the way. Dallas ISD’s Social and Emotional Learning Department hosted the Student Leadership Summit Virtual Symposium earlier this month. Middle schools and high schools from across the district participated in the summit with a total of 295 staff and students.  Summit session topics included school, identity and voice. The past three semesters have brought students a multitude of challenges to students, from isolation due to the pandemic to racial injustices. El Departamento de Aprendizaje Socioemocional de Dallas ISD realizó el simposio virtual para líderes estudiantiles este mes. Varias secundarias y preparatorias de todo el distrito participaron con un total de 295 miembros del personal y estudiantes. Entre los temas que se trataron estuvieron la escuela, la identidad y la voz. Los últimos tres semestres provocaron múltiples desafíos para los estudiantes, entre ellos, aislamiento debido a la pandemia e injusticias raciales. Gracias a una coalición de organizaciones como Zan Holmes Community Outreach Center y Cornerstone Baptist Church, exalumnos de James Madison High School y las voluntarias Mary Morgan y Diane Johnson, 112 estudiantes de Madison High School recibieron una canasta con regalos justo antes de graduarse. Las canastas contenían artículos de higiene, mochilas, productos para sus futuros dormitorios universitarios, tarjetas de regalo, bocadillos y platillos hechos al horno como parte de la donación en celebración de su logro.

As we prepare for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, we want everyone to be healthy and safe when we return to all in-person instruction. This summer, Dallas ISD and Parkland Hospital are hosting several pop-up COVID-19 vaccine sites for individuals ages 12 years and up. Schools that opted into the program will offer service to both students and members of the community. Parkland staff will administer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 shot, beginning the week of June 28 for the administration of the first shot, and will return the week of July 19 for the second dose. Thanks to a coalition of concerned citizens—individuals, organizations and alumni, including the Zan Holmes Community Outreach Center, Cornerstone Baptist Church, James Madison Alumni, and volunteers Mary Morgan and Diane Johnson–112 Madison High School seniors were showered with a variety of gifts just before graduation. The students received swag baskets with hygiene items, backpacks, products for their dorm rooms, gift cards, snacks and home-baked goods to say congratulations, job well done!

Tres equipos femeniles ganaron premios en VEX Robotics World Championship, ¡donde compitieron contra más de 200 equipos de todo el mundo! Las LadyBots de Casa View Elementary School ganaron el Online Challenge STEM Research Project Award. GirlPower de Winnetka Elementary School ganó el Energy Award y las RoboBeasts de Robert T.
