More than 1,500 new teachers, librarians, media specialists and other campus-based personnel got a Dallas ISD welcome as they get ready to start the 2022-23 school year. This year, the Dallas ISD – Human Capital Management Department hired approximately 1,600 new teachers and anticipates hiring 2,000 more throughout this year. Similar to past years the district will have approximately 10,000 teacher positions overall. Approximately 300 students and 18 staffers from W.W. Bushman Elementary will start the 2022-23 school year as new members of the Elisha M. Pease Elementary School family. Saying that safety and security are the top priorities for Dallas ISD, Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Elizalde on Tuesday spelled out the district’s new Comprehensive Safety Plan, which was put together with input from two safety task forces including staff, students, parents, community members, and safety and security professionals. The task forces reviewed a variety of data points, district safety protocols, national security trends and recommendations for potential issues as part of their approach. Dallas ISD students in grades four to six will have a chance to participate in voluntary, after-school sports through the district’s P.L.A.Y. Initiative (Practice Leagues for Active Youth).
