After a spirited live auction and fundraising gala at the Dallas Zoo, the winning bidder paid $50,000 for the chance to name a newborn giraffe born Oct. 26. The money will go to conservation groups helping giraffes in the wild. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has requested that the public be involved in the naming of the giraffe. Lincoln High School’s Head Girls Basketball Coach Carlesa Dixon returned to her alma mater three years ago with the pride she remembered as a former student and state champion basketball player for the Tigers. Some members of the younger set also learned that lesson during the Nov. 4 elections, and they looked happy doing it. The South Dallas Super Bowl, a rivalry spanning more than 50 years between the South Dallas neighborhood’s Lincoln High School Tigers and James Madison High School Trojans, will take place at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park.
