In a feat never accomplished in the district’s long and storied athletic history, three boys’ basketball teams—James Madison, Justin F. Kimball, and David W. For 25 years, Dallas ISD’s Principal for a Day program has brought classrooms and boardrooms together, giving students a glimpse into real-world careers and showing community leaders the incredible work happening inside the classrooms. Almost 200 civic, business, and nonprofit leaders stepped into the role of principal at campuses across the district, shadowing school leaders, meeting students, and gaining a firsthand look at the heart of public education. Dallas ISD students are invited to enter the 2025 Black History Month Art Contest, hosted by the Dallas Mavericks. Now accepting submissions, the art contest is open to eighth through 12th grade students across north Texas. To enter, students must submit a visual medium representing Black history and growth of representation of Black culture in the arts through different eras of time.  Five winners will be chosen, and each will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. with a guardian to visit renowned African American museums.
