Dallas ISD celebrates School Board Recognition Month

By Molly Schrader on January 1, 2026 News Briefs

January is School Board Recognition Month, and Dallas ISD is honoring our nine trustees for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.

The theme this year is “Our Future Is Public,” which exemplifies the critical role our school trustees have in shaping the future of our communities. School board members help connect educational opportunities for our students and the state’s future workforce.

Under Dallas ISD Board of Trustee leadership, district elementary and middle schools received top rankings in recent reports from the U.S. News & World Report, received the highest bond rating of a AAA from Kroll Bond Rating Agency, and was awarded the District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association.

The trustees are as follows:

  • President Joe Carreón, District 8 (Northwest Dallas, Love Field, and parts of East and West Dallas)
  • First Vice President, Ed Turner, District 9 (South Dallas and parts of Downtown Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Deep Ellum, Uptown, and East Dallas)
  • Second Vice President, Lance Currie, District 1 (Northwest Dallas, including North Dallas, Addison, parts of Carrollton, and Farmers Branch)
  • Secretary, Prisma Y. Garcia, District 4 (Parts of Southeast Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Balch Springs, and Seagoville)
  • Sarah Weinberg, District 2 (North and Near East Dallas)
  • Dan Micciche, District 3 (Northeast Dallas)
  • Byron Sanders, District 5 (Oak Lawn, West Dallas, Wilmer, Hutchins, and portions of East Oak Cliff)
  • Joyce Foreman, District 6 (Southwest Dallas)
  • Ben Mackey, District 7 (North Central Oak Cliff, Cockrell Hill, and parts of West Dallas)
