Celebrating a banner year of student accomplishments

Student Activities achieved a year of remarkable success, with students demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication across a wide array of competitive events.

Participants excelled in academic, debate, and various scholastic competitions, securing top placements, scholarships, and national recognition. These outstanding accomplishments highlight the department’s commitment to fostering student growth and preparing them for future success.

  • Schools that advanced to the UIL Academic State Meet: 
    • School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center
    • School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center
    • Hillcrest High School
  • School of Science and Engineering at Townview was the winner of the 4A UIL Academic State 2025 Sweepstakes. They won the sweepstakes prize by placing first as a team and individually in eight categories. 
  • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview earned a third-place individual award in current issues and events, and a third-place team finish in computer science at the UIL Academic State Meet.
  • Six students were awarded $18,000 in scholarships for the Parrish Charitable Foundation Debate Tournament.
  • Eight debaters competed in the 2025 CX Debate State Tournament at the University of Texas at Austin.
  • 17 students qualified for and competed at the Texas Forensic State Tournament.
  • Four students qualified for and competed in the Urban Debate National Championship.
  • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview and Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at A. Maceo Smith competed in the National Speech & Debate Championship tournament.
  • Four teams qualified for State Academic Decathlon finals by earning top scores at the regional competition: 
    • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview
    • School of Science and Engineering at Townview
    • Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at A. Maceo Smith
    • Lassiter Early College High School
  • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview decathletes placed second in the state competition, winning nine scholarships and 32 medals (11 golds, 8 silvers, 11 bronzes).
  • School of Science and Engineering at Townview took fifth place at the state decathlon finals, winning 12 medals and two scholarships.
  • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview competed in the small division for the Online National Competition and won third place.
  • 16 high schools participated in the UIL State Spirit Championship Competition.
  • 30 teams from 22 schools advanced to the State DI Competition.
  • Three teams advanced to the DI Global Finals competition
    • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview
    • New Tech High School at B.F. Darrell\
    • William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy for the Academically Talented and Gifted
  • At DI Globals:
    • Fifth Place: School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview
    • Ninth: B.F. Darrell
    • 16th: William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy for the Academically Talented and Gifted
  • New Tech High School received the Renaissance Award for outstanding creativity and design at DI Globals.
  • School of Science and Engineering at Townview won first place sweepstakes at Texas Math Science Coaches Association State High School Meet by winning first place team awards in every category. Three graduating seniors earned scholarships for their outstanding individual cumulative scores.
  • School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview won sixth place overall at TMSCA State High School Meet.
  • J.L. Long Middle School won ninth place overall and fourth place in Number Sense at TMSCA State Middle School  Meet.
  • B.F. Darrell sent 19 students to the 2025 TexSEF Undisputed Esports State Championship.
  • 15 B.F. Darrell students advanced beyond the pool stages at the TexSEF Undisputed Esports State Championship. Two Mario Kart teams and one Rocket League team from B.F. Darrell placed in the top nine statewide at the TexSEF Undisputed Esports State Championship.
