Thousands of students across the city are learning in safer, tech-savvy, and modern schools thanks to the Dallas ISD 2020 Bond program.Recently, district leaders came together at the State of the Bond to give an update on its success and their vision for the future.
“The 2020 Bond program made significant progress, reflecting the trust our community placed in us,” said Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde, Ed. D. “Its impact on our students will be felt for generations to come.”
The 2020 Bond program reshaped classrooms across Dallas.
From brand-new campuses to upgraded facilities, 253 projects were funded through the 2020 Bond, reflecting the district’s commitment to innovation and academic excellence. As a result, students now occupy modern classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, flexible spaces for collaboration, and labs designed for hands-on, real-world learning.
Athletic facilities, performing arts centers, and career training spaces also underwent upgrades, providing students with more opportunities to explore their talents and passions. Approved by voters on Nov. 3, 2020, the $3.54 billion bond, the largest school bond in Texas history, included two major propositions.
With a total of $3.2 billion, Proposition A funded 15 replacement schools, six new facilities, and four career institutes while also supporting safety, accessibility, and energy-efficiency upgrades across more than 200 campuses. Proposition B projects, which totaled $270 million, modernized technology infrastructure, further improving connectivity, security, and access to digital learning tools.
Beyond school improvements, the bond program strengthened the local economy, creating more than 57,000 jobs. The resulting construction, renovation, and technology projects supported architects, engineers, skilled trades, and local businesses throughout Dallas.
As Dallas ISD celebrates the success of the 2020 Bond, attention is turning toward the future. The Citizens Bond Steering Committee, which began meeting in the spring, is exploring the possibility of a future bond to build on this progress and expand opportunities for Dallas ISD students.
