In Dallas ISD classrooms, art is more than paint and paper. It is a catalyst for creativity, critical thinking, and growth. That passion and dedication recently earned the district its fourth Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction Award.
Out of more than 1,200 eligible districts across Texas, only 109 met the rigorous standards for this prestigious recognition, and Dallas ISD stands out as the largest district honored for excellence in visual arts education.
This distinction honors school districts that are leading the way in the visual arts and exemplify a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social-emotional learning.
The district offers a wide range of visual and performing arts subjects. Curriculum materials are focused on the elements of art, principles of design, and creative processes using a variety of art materials.
Students also study and discuss a diverse group of artists from the past and present. Writing and discussion through critical evaluation and oral response activities also help students develop critical thinking skills.
“Dallas ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy and integration,” said Nealy Holley, chair of the Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA. “The dedication and skill of your visual art educators are evident in the rich, engaging experiences they provide to students.”
Dallas ISD will be honored at the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly on Nov. 21. For more information, click here.
