Food and Child Nutrition Services to serve free summer meals

By The Hub on May 22, 2025 News Briefs

This summer, Dallas ISD will provide all kids 18 years and younger, or 21 and under for those with disabilities, with healthy, no-cost summer meals starting on June 2.

The Summer Food Service Program is a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered annually by the Texas Department of Agriculture. For the children who rely on school meals during the academic year, these meals offer a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.

“Because we are committed to the health and well-being of all Dallas ISD students, healthy ‘no-cost’ meals will be available to all young people across our community,” said Debi Rowley, executive director of Food and Child Nutrition Services.

Meals meet or exceed USDA health requirements, and feature items like lean proteins, whole grains, multiple fruits and vegetables, and milk. Meals must be consumed on-site.

Families are encouraged to use the following tools to find a meal site near them:

  • Visit DallasISD.org/FCNS for an interactive site locator map
  • Call 2-1-1 to speak to a live operator
  • Text “Food” to 304-304

Dallas ISD and United Way are celebrating the program with a kickoff event on Thursday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center.

Open to the community, there will be games, activities for kids, food, giveaways, taste tests, community vendors, and more. Visit dallasisd.org/FCNS for more information.
