Dallas Education Foundation continues its commitment to educational excellence by funding literacy kits for elementary school students across Dallas ISD.
These innovative kits bridge literacy and STEM education, helping kindergarten-through-fifth-grade students connect what they read to real-world scientific concepts.
The literacy kits are designed to make abstract STEM topics tangible by providing grade-specific manipulatives that complement our reading curriculum. By reinforcing informational texts with hands-on tools, the kits deepen students’ understanding and engagement across disciplines, laying a strong foundation for future learning.
“These literacy kits are a game-changer for Dallas ISD students,” said Roberto Gonzalez, executive director of Reading Language Arts. “Thanks to the generous support of the Dallas Education Foundation, we are equipping our classrooms with resources that bring learning to life. By bridging literacy and STEM through hands-on activities, we’re ensuring our students are not just learning, but truly engaging with the materials. We are deeply grateful to DEF for making this possible.
DEF’s grant ensures that each of the district’s elementary schools will now have additional resources to support reading instruction. This expanded access allows teachers to integrate literacy and STEM instruction better and ensures that resources are readily available in classrooms when needed.
The district-wide impact is significant: 60,000 students across 154 schools, 89% of whom are economically disadvantaged, will benefit from this critical support. Through this investment, the Dallas Education Foundation continues to foster a love of reading, strengthen science literacy, and empower every student to achieve their fullest potential.
