Dallas ISD is ready to kick off the spring semester tomorrow, Jan. 7. We’re excited to welcome students back into warm buildings, with teachers and staff eager to start the new year strong.

Winter weather is forecast for Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10. If conditions require adjustments, cancellations, or postponements to operations, Dallas ISD will communicate to parents and team members through the district’s website, social media channels, and send phone calls and text messages. Once a decision is made, these alerts will be sent as soon as possible.

We are also monitoring athletic events and extra curricular activities for this week. Currently, all athletics practices scheduled from Monday, Jan. 6 to Wednesday, Jan. 8 will be held as planned. Any decisions regarding changes to schedules or events will also be shared as quickly as possible.

Families are encouraged to send students to school dressed in warm clothing as low temperatures are expected. Here are a few cold-weather tips from the National Weather Service to help you stay cozy and safe:

  • Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing, along with a hat.
  • Choose mittens instead of gloves, they keep your hands warmer.
  • Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from the cold.
  • Stay dry and shield yourself from the wind.
