Transitioning John Quincy Adams Elementary School to its new campus didn’t just involve upgrading systems and procedures, it also meant a new addition to promote the school’s literacy goals.
Thanks to the support of Atmos Energy and the Dallas Education Foundation, the school proudly introduced a brand-new book vending machine, greeting students just outside the library doors.
The day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony was filled with excitement and anticipation from the group of students serving as the school’s representatives. After a tour of the new campus led by fifth grade ambassadors, the ribbon was cut and the new book vending machine was revealed. Applause erupted from the audience as the group of students eagerly waited for the chance to use the machine. With a shiny token in their hand, they were among the first to get a book – a book that they get to permanently keep and use to build their home library.
Jessica Torres, the librarian at John Quincy Adams, has been waiting in anticipation for the book vending machine and all the reading opportunities it will give her students.
This excitement was echoed by Principal Linda Kratzert, who expressed her appreciation for the support of her new campus. Being able to provide her students the opportunity to not only pick out their own books but also to bring them home to read forever is one of the many reasons why Principal Kratzert was excited for the machine.
The book vending machine at John Quincy Adams marks Atmos Energy’s 11th machine in the district, a testament to Atmos Energy’s dedication to promoting literacy across Dallas ISD.
