Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services is proud to announce the continuation of the At-Risk Afterschool Meals for the 2024-2025 school year.
This initiative is under the Child and Adult Food Care Program, which provides reimbursements for meals and snacks served to students, ages 18 and under, participating in after-school programs. This means Dallas ISD students who participate in afterschool programs can receive a free snack or supper. The goal of the CACFP is to promote the development of good eating habits and integrate nutritious food services into programs that extend beyond the regular school day.
This program is important because receiving nutritious meals at a young age, as well as being physically active, is critical to the establishment of positive lifelong habits.
“It is so important for us to support all Dallas ISD students and do everything we can to ensure they receive good nutrition throughout the entire school day, not just breakfast and Lunch,” Debi Rowley, executive director of Food and Child Nutrition Services said. “The CACFP program allows us to extend our services outside the school day to students who are participating in afterschool programs so that they can get the nutrition and energy they need to accomplish their goals.”
