Imagine walking through a tunnel of cheers and high-fives, welcoming you into the first day of the 2024-2025 school year. John J. Pershing Elementary School did just that as the campus welcomed students back to school on Aug. 12.

Across the district, more than 140,000 students were greeted in a variety of ways at their campuses prior to the first bell of the day. Campus cheerleaders, drumlines, principals, mascots, and special guests were at their school’s entrance ready to make it happen for students of all grade levels.

Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde, Ed.D. set the tone for the school year by visiting students at Pershing Elementary, followed by Hillcrest High School.

“Look around at the excitement this day brings. Our bus drivers are ready, our teachers are eager to meet their new students and our principals stand ready to serve you. Thank you for continuing to be the best part in what makes our district so special. Let’s make it a great year,” she said.

At Royce West Leadership Academy, Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall and the Mavs ManiAACs visited students to kick off the school year. The Mavericks organization adopted the school for the 2024-2025 academic year, promising exciting opportunities and support for students and team members. Students were greeted with free school supplies and back-to-school swag.Other campuses celebrated the first day of school in their new home, thanks to the completion of the Bond 2020 program.

From the cheers at John J. Pershing Elementary to the exciting partnerships at Royce West Leadership Academy, each campus embraced the district’s ‘Make It Happen’ attitude.
