Dallas ISD robotics teams excel in state and global arenas

With gears still spinning and circuits buzzing, the district’s competitive robotics teams are capping off another successful season of victories and innovation. At the global competition, teams will bring their A-game, leveraging the skills they’ve honed throughout the school year and putting forth their maximum effort.

VEX Robotics
Thirty-two teams from 17 Dallas ISD schools advanced to the VEX Robotics State Championship, with 11 of them securing spots in the upcoming VEX Robotics World Championship from April 25 to May 3 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

FIRST in Texas
Several teams from 15 campuses advanced in the FIRST robotics competitions. For the second year in a row, Dallas ISD received the “Outstanding School District” award at the FIRST LEGO League State Championship. Additionally, S.S. Conner Elementary School earned a spot at the FIRST LEGO League “Explore” World Championship where students meet and learn from others. The School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove and Eddie Bernice Johnson STEM Academy received “Rising Star” awards.

Aerial Drone Teams
The district’s aerial drone teams are soaring to new heights in its second year. Two OwlBot teams from the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove clinched the “Teamwork Champions” award, earning them a spot in the Aerial Drone Championship. Also earning a spot at the competition was Woodrow Wilson’s Dronelution 360 team and Dallas Environmental Science Academy’s Lady DESAstronauts team.
