Dallas ISD appointed new athletic coordinators and head football coaches for Thomas Jefferson High School (TJ) and Franklin D. Roosevelt High School of Innovation.
Bobby Estes, Thomas Jefferson High School
During the 2023 football season, Estes served as TJ’s interim athletic coordinator and head football coach. He came out of retirement last June to be the school’s defensive coordinator but soon became the interim coach in July. Last year, TJ’s football team, the Patriots, finished with a 1-9 record.
Estes’ career in high school football spans 37 years including coaching positions at Woodrow Wilson High School, North Dallas High School, and Moisés E. Molina High School.
Jason Garrett Sr., Franklin D. Roosevelt High School of Innovation
This is Jason Garrett Sr.’s first head coaching position, but he has previously been a part of three coaching staffs that won state championships.
In 2021, Garrett became Duncanville High School’s run game coordinator and led the Panthers to the state championship. The team would later win the 6A Division I state championship in 2022 and 2023.
Garrett was an assistant coach at Skyline High School and served as the defensive coordinator, associate head coach, and oversaw recruiting from 2018-2021. He also coached at DeSoto High School, where he was the defensive pass game coordinator from 2014-2018, including the 2016 season when the Eagles won the 6A Division II state championship.
Garrett brings a wealth of experience to Roosevelt, including weekly game plans for players, player analysis, supervision of assistant coaches, film evaluations, scouting, strength and conditioning, and recruiting.
