Following the retirement announcement of Dallas ISD’s current chief of police last fall, we are pleased to announce Albert Martinez will lead the department. The district conducted an extensive search to identify a highly qualified candidate to help support student success and safe learning environments. With a career dedicated to public safety and building relationships with the community, Martinez brings 30 years of experience as a law enforcement officer. He will work alongside a team to further strengthen the safety efforts that help protect and serve 141,000 students and more than 23,000 employees.
Currently the executive assistant chief of police for the Dallas Police Department (DPD), Martinez has previously worked as the director of security and safety for the Catholic Diocese of Dallas and held various leadership roles within DPD.
Martinez will assume his new post February 2024.
To ensure a smooth leadership transition, Chief John Lawton will collaborate with Martinez to build on the ongoing safety efforts and initiatives. The district congratulates Chief Lawton for his years of service to Dallas ISD and wishes him well on his next endeavors.
