The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution during the Sept. 28 board meeting highlighting the pressing need for the Texas Legislature to prioritize increased funding for public schools.
The resolution draws attention to the funding gap which places Texas 42nd out of 50 states in terms of public education funding and ranks the state below the national average in K-12 spending. The Texas Legislature has not made adjustments to the Basic Allotment since 2019.
Furthermore, the resolution expresses concerns regarding Texas House Bill 3, which mandates armed security officers on all campuses without providing sufficient funding for implementation. The resolution also opposes the diversion of taxpayer dollars to private schools through vouchers or Education Savings Accounts, noting that such subsidies primarily benefit wealthier students.
