In four District UIL Academic contests, 145 Dallas ISD students from 19 campuses qualified to compete at UIL Regionals. These students competed in 22 academic contests, ranging from speech to STEM to writing.

To be eligible to participate in the UIL Regional competition, students had to place first, second, or third in their respective contests at the district level. Held at Skyline High School on March 25, the competition attracted more than 500 students from four UIL districts, 3A-9, 4A-13, 5A-11, and 5A-12.

The Regional competitions will take place at Tyler Junior College, Texas A&M Commerce, and The University of Texas at Arlington on April 22.

Students who participate in UIL Academics are challenged to think critically and creatively while demonstrating their knowledge in a competitive setting, said Michelle Read, student activities coordinator.

“This annual competition is a great opportunity for students to showcase their academic talents and compete against students from other high schools in their UIL districts,” she said.

UIL team members can supplement their on-campus learning and increase engagement by actively competing in UIL events, said Victoria Myers, a regional qualifier in spelling.

“I like being on the UIL team because it gives me a chance to study academic topics with my peers that I know will drive and expand my learning in school,” said Myers, a TAG Magnet junior.

Points are awarded to students who placed in the top six in each contest, including One-Act Play, and CX Debate. After all the points were tallied, these are the overall Dallas ISD winners in their respective districts.
