Welcome back to school, Dallas ISD family! It’s going to be a full and exciting school year. As we prepare for the first day of school, here are some tips to help your child have a successful start to the new year:
Enroll Your Child Now
If you haven’t already registered your student for the 2022-2023 year, you can enroll now. For help completing enrollment, join us for our This Is Home Registration Fair on Saturday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ellis Davis Field House, 9191 S. Polk St., Dallas, TX 75232. In-person registration assistance will be offered for students in pre-K through 12th grade. And you can pick up free school supplies, backpacks, and more.
School Calendars
Like last year, our schools are operating on several different calendars, with different starting dates. Most schools have a base calendar, but 41 schools have an Intersession calendar, and five schools have a School Day Redesign calendar.
To find the starting date for your child’s school, visit: www.dallasisd.org/schoolcalendars.
School Hours
We’ve made some adjustments to school starting times as well. To see what time your child’s school bell rings, visit:

Clear or Mesh Backpacks Required for Grades 6-12
As merely one of several steps in the district’s comprehensive plan to better ensure student and staff safety, students in sixth through 12th grade will be required to use clear or mesh backpacks starting in the 2022-2023 school year. Other bags will no longer be allowed.
Dallas ISD will distribute a free clear backpack to secondary students before the start of the school year. For more information and frequently asked questions, visit www.dallasisd.org/backpacks.
