Our Dallas ISD family joins in mourning with the families and loved ones of the more than 50 people—including several children—who died this week in an overheated truck in San Antonio. The story of those who perished as they were seeking a better life is all too familiar for many of us.
This tragedy reminds us of the difficult choices faced by those who are driven to live the American dream—including thousands of families we serve each day. This is a time for empathy, compassion, and understanding.
As a people, we are all connected by the bonds of humanity. As educators, we are deeply saddened by the loss of these real people, with real names, and real stories that should not be forgotten, nor used as political talking points. The work continues, and it is our responsibility to help equip families with essential resources and opportunities, as we all hope for a future where tragedies like this one are no more.
May everyone grappling with this loss find peace and solace in their time of sorrow.
