The email caused David W. Carter High School’s Kennedi Grant to scream so loud she momentarily disrupted a baseball game.

Kennedi had been praying and constantly refreshing her inbox just for this: The email said she would receive a full scholarship valued at nearly $250,000 to Texas Christian University through the Community Scholars Program.

“This is just a huge weight lifted off my shoulders,” Kennedi said. “We’ve been trying to figure out how to pay for student loans. Being able to go four years with a free education at a school that I love is just an incredible feeling.”

Kennedi is an outstanding student who was always happy to go the extra mile to help her school and classmates. As a student in Carter’s P-TECH program, she will graduate from high school with 60 hours of college credit and an associate degree, without paying a penny for tuition.

The Dallas Police Department is an industry partner with the Carter P-TECH. Through this partnership, Kennedi met DPD Chief Eddie Garcia twice and visited the police department, which ignited in her a passion for criminal justice.

Kennedi plans to get her degree from TCU in criminal justice and give back to the community that has given her so much.

“I want to make a difference with my life,” she said. “And thanks to my family, my incredible teachers and classmates at Carter and this opportunity at TCU, the sky is the limit.”
