The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees this evening named Stephanie Elizalde as the lone finalist in their superintendent search in a unanimous vote.

There is now a 21-day state-mandated waiting period before Elizalde can officially become the next Dallas ISD superintendent.

Elizalde is currently the superintendent of the Austin Independent School District, serving more than 80,000 students and 12,000 employees. Prior to this role, Elizalde served as the chief of school leadership for Dallas ISD.

A native Texan, Elizalde is a third-generation public school educator who has served students in various roles, including as teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and deputy chief.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced in January that he will close out his 13-year tenure as superintendent. Hinojosa will remain in Dallas ISD until December and serve as emeritus superintendent, helping ensure a smooth transition.
