Starting teacher salary of $60,000 and hiring incentives included in proposed 2022-2023 budget

Dallas ISD’s proposed 2022-2023 budget includes an increase in the starting salaries for teachers who are new to the district in addition to thousands of dollars in hiring incentives.

If the budget is approved, novice teachers who are new to the district would earn a starting salary of $60,000. The increase in base salary for new teachers combined with the $2,000 hiring incentive—available for both experienced and novice teachers —will help Dallas ISD be more competitive and overcome a national and state teacher shortage that has been made worse by the pandemic. The hiring incentive applies to all certification areas as long as the candidate meets the minimum requirements to be hired as a teacher.

Proposed 2022-2023 new teacher salary schedule

187 / 191 Days 2021-2022 2022-2023
Novice (0) $56,500 $60,000
1 $57,000 $60,500
2 $57,500 $61,000
3 $58,400 $61,750
4 $59,400 $62,500
5 $61,200 $63,250
6 $61,700 $63,750
7 $62,200 $64,250
8 $62,600 $64,650
9 $62,900 $64,950
10+ $63,400 $65,450

Some new teachers will have other opportunities to earn additional compensation because the $2,000 hiring incentive is stackable. It would be added to other applicable incentives, such as $3,000 for secondary math and science, $3,000 for identified special education teachers, $5,000 for elementary bilingual education teachers, and $3,000 for teachers of languages other than English.

In addition to the incentives, Dallas ISD will reimburse newly hired teachers up to $4,000 for their alternative certification program fees from any Texas accredited alternative certification program. This payment will be applicable to teachers of record who are hired for the 2022-2023 school year. Eligible candidates will need to have their intern certificate posted no earlier than 2022 through an eligible alternative certification program accredited by the Texas Education Agency.

The district will absorb the costs of the hiring incentive and the AC reimbursement by utilizing existing Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds. Payments are available for employees hired by September 1, 2022. For any questions, please contact Chele Andreason at
