Dallas ISD has much to be proud of with the accomplishments of its band, orchestra and choir programs!
Every year, music ensembles across the state participate in region-level evaluation to receive ratings from experts in the field on their performances in both concert and sightreading (playing a piece of music they have never seen before). Every band, orchestra and choir program in our district participates in this event.
Participation in UIL music requires months and months of preparation. The pandemic put great strain on student development with the lack of regular face-to-face instruction last year. This has required teachers to go the extra mile, working long hard hours to make up for the loss in time. Our teachers met the challenge and did their best to prepare students for the experience.
Twenty-two of our band and orchestra programs received the highest (1st division) rating in both concert and sightreading. Another 18 ensembles earned the highest rating in either concert or sightreading. Programs including the Samuell High School band and the Madison High School band earned this distinction for the first time in their history.
As for our vocal ensembles, seventeen Dallas ISD choirs earned highest ratings (1st division) in both concert and sightreading, with eight additional choirs earning highest ratings in concert and four choirs earning highest ratings in sightreading. Highlights included Bryan Adams High School and the Barack Obama MLA High School Glee Club earning 1st division in concert and sightreading for the first time in program history.
Congratulations to our 1st division music programs!
