Bond 2020 – Building BIG (Bold, Innovative, Generational): The New Geneva Heights Elementary

Dallas ISD is making a $31 million investment in a new replacement school for the Geneva Heights learning community.  During a rigorous community engagement process, the community developed three BIG ideas that would serve as guiding principles in the design of the new campus. They were:

  • Adapt to growth while maintaining our small, tight-knit community;
  • Remain the gem in the community
  • Reflect the spirit of our diverse community

“Dallas ISD is committed to transparency with our Bond 2020 projects,” shared Brent Alfred, Deputy Chief, Bond and Construction Services.  “We had four meetings with the Geneva Heights learning community and stakeholders where they shared their priorities and input into the building’s design.  The result of our community outreach efforts is innovative building designs that will meet the needs of Dallas ISD families now and for generations to come.”

The new school has a capacity of 750 students and pays homage to the school’s rich history by retaining a portion of the original. The design of the replacement campus features:

  • Preservation of the iconic front building with full interior renovation to transform into a new administrative suite and SPED classrooms
  • Secured entrances
  • New PK-5 classrooms
  • Collaboration spaces
  • Cafetorium
  • Gymnasium
  • Music and Fine Arts classrooms
  • Science rooms
  • Outdoor playgrounds, play fields, and learning spaces

The existing Geneva Heights campus will be demolished later this year to make room for the construction of the new replacement campus. During construction, students and staff will be relocated to the former Jill Stone Elementary campus in Vickery Meadows.  Dallas ISD Maintenance is working to prep and brand the campus for Geneva Heights.  “When students return to school for the 2022-23 school year, we want to ensure that their temporary location will be a safe learning environment that feels like home,” said David Bates, assistant superintendent of Maintenance and Operations.

The new Geneva Heights is scheduled to open in Fall 2024. Funding for the replacement school is provided by the Bond 2020 program. For more information and to keep up to date on this project, visit www.dallasisd.org/thenewgenevaheights.
