Stacy Dean, Deputy Under Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture, visited the Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Rangel Middle School on March 10th in celebration of School Breakfast Week, Women’s History Month, National Nutrition Month and the Farm to School Program at Dallas ISD.

Rangel Middle School student ambassadors exchanged their thoughts about the importance of school food and nutrition with the visitors from USDA. One of the students said she is very grateful to the cafeteria staff for reminding her to eat fruits and vegetables. This student also mentioned that, thanks to the exposure to new fruits and vegetables through the Harvest of the Month program, she has come to enjoy celery as one of her favorite vegetables.

Before the visitors prepared to leave the school, they made a stop at the cafeteria where dedicated staff had prepared a special Brunch for Lunch menu to celebrate School Breakfast Week. As they enjoyed the menu, the students’ bright smiles reaffirmed that they are the reason to continue to provide healthy meals at all 225 schools in Dallas ISD.
